The KiwiRail yard is classed as a 24/7 live Yard and its KR, NZTA and SRW requirement that we use Hi-Viz, while in the yard. Also please wear a good pair of sturdy shoes or boots (preferably with steel caps). SRW can supply a Hi-Viz vest if you do not have one, just ask on arrival. Remember to fill out the maintenance record books for the item you are working on (including the hours Loco’s or Motor trollies ran for) & the site diary with a detailed description of what has been done before you leave for the day. Also, if we have a visitor come in during our normal operating days, please make sure they sign in and are made aware of the Safety Briefing on the Wall.

SRW Lawn Roster
The Committee has decided on starting up a lawn roster for members who attend our Sunday Construction/ Maintenance days. This will be on a monthly cycle so each member will be given a month. You only have to do it once during that month; this gives you the flexibility if the weather is bad one weekend you should be able to get it done the next. Members who have not used the tractor mower before will be shown how it works. If for any reason you can’t do it that month please arrange to swap with another member on the list.
Keegan J-J – February. Hamish C – March. Blair J – April.
Colin H – May. Trevor F – June. Greg T – July.

SRW Open-Day and Motor Trolley Rides
Our next open day will most likely be the Monday of Kings Birthday Weekend, June the 3rd, 2024.
This long weekend is also the weekend of the Federation of Rail Organisations of New Zealand (FRONZ) conference. This year it is being held in P Nth. FRONZ has been in contact with SRW about this weekend. FRONZ are keen for a couple of our members to attend the conference, since its so close to home and on the Monday, they would like to visit the club. They would go for a ride as part of our open day. They are also keen for us to provide some sort of lunch, e.g. BBQ, sandwich packs or subway smoko shouts etc. We would need as many members as possible on deck to help with the day, since we would be dealing with not only the public, but about 50 FRONZ delegates.
SRW Annual General Meeting.
SteamRail Wanganui Inc will hold its Annual General Meeting on Wednesday the 24th of April 2024. All members to attend please. There will be several items to discuss on this night, re the future direction of the group, the costs we now must pay and the possibility of the group downsizing and even selling an item or two. Subs for the 2024/2025 year are now due.

Fund Raising
We are always looking at ways to keep our money flowing and the projects going.
The following are a few ways we do this. If you have an idea let your committee know.
Motor trolley rides- Now we have the JOP and after the success of our first public running day we are now looking at more dates we can give rides to the public on. If you would like to become a Motor Trolley driver, come and see your committee for information on how to go about becoming a driver. We also have cold drinks for sale and our building is open to view our locos and rolling stock on these days. We always need members help with these events. Please let us know if you can ASAP.
Security Guarding Trains- A couple of times a year SRW gets hired not only by KiwiRail but other visiting rail excursions that stay overnight in town to do the security of the trains. We have heard that a couple of groups are planning more of these trips early next year so no doubt SRW members will be called upon
again to help out.
Scrap Metal- We want your scrap metal. We now collect all scrap metal from aluminium cans to rusty steel (Please note, we can not take food or pet food tins). This is a good fund raiser for the club, so instead of taking your metal to the Tip drop it off to the yard on Sunday mornings and have a cup of tea or give a committee member a ring and support your club.

Inportant Reminder To All People Using The WMR&ES Club Rooms
Over the last few months we have had the following things happen at the club rooms- Door left unlocked, Lights and
Layout Controls left on and Alarm not set when people leave. Also there are members who are using the rooms on other than meeting nights/days who are not filling out the Visitors Book.
Please, if you are at the club rooms, double check when you leave that you have turned off all lights, controllers and the jug. Make sure the door is locked, Set the alarm (by turning the key down then back up) and listen for the loud buzzer sound before you leave to know that it has set. Also fill out the Visitors Book with time you get there and the time you leave so we know how often the rooms are getting used.

Newsletter & Website Notes
We can now offer members the newsletter via email instead of the post. Getting your newsletter by email is the only sure way to get all the photos in colour and in some cases even bigger pics., so if you would like to receive your newsletter by email instead of post please let Blair Jordan or Greg Tinnion know your email address. This will also help with saving costs re postage and printing, the choice is yours.
To keep any Newsletter or Website going we always need news and interesting articles. All members are invited to
submit news of interest to them i.e. new additions to their collections, tips and techniques on Maintenance, Restoration or Modelling, holidays, trips to shows, events and exhibitions etc that you have been on, in fact anything of interest to other club enthusiasts.
Advertisements such as Wanted or For Sale items are also welcome.
Important Reminder.
We always need ideas for club nights. If members have an idea let your Committee know.
